Sac Anime Summer 09
Written by Consplayers
Summer Sac-Anime 2009 was on August 29th and 30th at the new and improved location, the Radisson on Leisure Lane. There were many highlights for this con, from their new guests to even the location itself. From the past conventions, Summer 2009 has been a vast improvement. It is to my delight that Sac-Anime will be returning to the Radisson for Winter.
The first big new thing was the new location. There was beautiful photography locations with the large lake in the middle of the hotel grounds. There was also considerably more space than the former Scottish-Rites Center, which was wonderful for all attendees. Larger rooms were provided for the events as well. The only downside to the location was that other event rooms were booked for another event going on, limiting the number of available rooms for the Sac-Anime event and the Artist Alley was placed in the middle of a busy hallway, which impeded traffic frequently.
The guests were a big highlight for this convention. It was a wonderful surprise to get away from the usual guests that come to the Sacramento conventions. This time, majority of the guests came from the acclaimed Resident Evil game series. The RE cast that came were:
Karen Dyer – Voice of Sheva Alomar RE5
Alyson Court – Voice of Claire Redfield RE
Paul Mercier – Voice of Leon RE4 and movie
Roger Craig Smith – Voice of Chris Redfield RE5
The Dealer’s Room was an excellent size. It had plenty of vendors and was easy to move around. Lots of interesting things for sale that seemed to be of higher quality than usual. The Game Room had a lot of attendees with the various games and tournaments held through-out the weekend.
Lastly, the Masquerade event. This was probably one of the weakest points for the convention. There was upset over special seating, poor timing to test the tech and audio, and a cramped space that went over the fire limit. It appeared that this event was run a bit half-hazardly and unorganized. The skits themselves were wonderful. Some amusing, some amazing costumes, and some wonderful performances.
All in all, this con was a very big success. It had a wonderful new location, new interesting guests, and excellent loot to come home with. Consplayers looks forward to attending again this Winter!
